project1

DARFUR, SUDAN

WTW has supported partners in Nyala, South Darfur with water and sanitation projects in the surrounding war torn region. We have helped support activities such as trucking water to displaced persons in an area known as Marla, and we have helped rehabilitate old wells that were unable to produce water due to faulty pumping mechanisms and corroded piping systems.  We also supported construction for emergency latrines throughout the region.

KAMPALA, UGANDA

WTW has partnered with a local community based organization focused on constructing and distributing bio-sand filters for people throughout Uganda. The program also trains a number of individuals each year on how to construct their own filters so that they can bring that knowledge back to their home villages.

WTW is also in the process of constructing two training and resource centers in northern Uganda. These centers will build and distribute bio-sand filters, as well as house a water and sanitation training center to teach locals how to access clean water. WTW has also installed countless Bio-sand filters through the country.

project2

KHARTOUM, SUDAN

WTW constructed an entire water system for an orphanage located in the slums of Sudan’s capital city. Before we were able to intervene the children and staff were drinking from a basin of standing water. Standing water is a haven for deadly bacteria, especially when the children drink out of the same bin that they wash in. The children and staff of the orphanage now have access to an adequate supply of clean running water.

NEW DELHI, INDIA

WTW has installed a new running water system for a leper colony located on the outskirts of New Delhi.

PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA

As of October 1, 2009 WTW has drilled over 70 wells in Cambodia, including 26 last year. In December of 2008 we purchased a drill rig and began drilling 4 wells every month. Nine months later, in September 2009, we increased our capacity to 16 wells per month.  The average depth for these wells is between 90 and 100 feet.

When we first started this project the typical cost for a well in Cambodia was about $2,500.  By making our own hand-pumps using local materials and utilizing local workers to drill the wells we were able to get the cost down to $500 per well.

TRUJILLO, PERU

In September 2009 Wine To Water began digging a well for an orphanage in Trujillo.  The orphanage is being built to house 123 orphans, many of them will be coming out of the local trash dump.  Also in September we installed a running water system for a daycare facility that also houses many of the children from the trash dump.
